My favorite New Orleans festival is the French Quarter Festival. It is one of the free festivals in New Orleans and it is held in the heart of the city. They have incredible local artists in several stages you can go to for free, and a lot of local restaurants have tents selling their food. It is an amazing way to spend a day in the French Quarter and have a good time.
I was admitted through Tulane through the Posse program. Before I accepted the Posse Scholarship, I visited Rice University in Houston. While I was there, I ran into a Tulane graduate that was in Houston for a job interview. Over some barbecue, he told me that Tulane was the best four years of his life and he will never forget the people he met and the experiences he had at Tulane. I decided to go for a tour one day, and upon stepping on campus, it felt like home. I knew a lot of students and graduates of Tulane, including family friends and my cousin. After speaking with everyone, they only had positive things to say and everyone said Tulane was everything they looked for in a college experience. After that, it seemed like the easiest decision I've ever made.
My favorite Tulane class thus far has been Neurobiology of Disease. It was a class with Dr. Cronin where we learned about different brain-related diseases and disorders every class. We would learn about the disease, symptoms, cures, and current research relating to the disease. It was an incredibly relevant class to my major and my hopes of being a doctor in the future. I loved every class and how much I learned throughout the semester.
New Orleans is notorious for its wide variety of amazing food. Two of my favorite spots to eat are Company Burger and Katie's Restaurant. Company Burger is some of the best burgers in the country, and Katie's is known all around the city for having some of the best oysters and seafood. I also enjoy going to the City Park Tennis Courts to play tennis with some friends. It is a very relaxing spot because I've been playing tennis at those courts for years and I know everyone there. The best spots in New Orleans are the ones where you start to know everyone there and it begins to feel like a second home full of similar people.
