Class of 2019

Current: Portuguesa, Venezuela, Bolivarian Republic of

Major: Biochemistry

A few of my life goals are...

I want to work in scientific research. Specifically, molecular basis of disease and gene therapy. In the future I hope I will be able to treat diseases such as cancer or diabetes as a simple flu and cure patients. In the future, I want to go back to my country, Venezuela, and I want to share all the knowledge I will gain with my country. I also want to form a family.

Favorite Tampa class/professor...

The upper level Biochemistry classes (Advanced Biochemistry, Tissue Culture, and Molecular Basis of Cancer) are my favorite classes. These classes are all research based so I practice my research skills for when I graduate, I will have experience in the field. Dr. Carastro and Dr. Witherow are both Biochemistry professors and they are my favorite professors. They are always eager to help you and they have challenged met o learn in every way, shape, and form.

I chose Tampa because...

I chose UT for three reasons. First, when I was looking for biochemistry programs, I saw that UT was only of the six universities in the US that provides students the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) accreditation. This accreditation is really taken into account if undergraduates want to continue their educations in Master or Doctorate programs. Second, I really loved the campus architecture and how everything was nearby. Classrooms are five minutes apart from each other and you can walk the entire campus in seven minutes. Third, personalized learning experience and classroom sizes. Back in my country, all my classes were a max of 30 students, so I was looking for something similar. Ut provided me that opportunity with classes of 20 students. My advanced biochemistry classes are even smaller. I share a class with only other 5 students.

My favorite spots in Tampa are...

UT of course, Clear water beach (its technically clear water, not Tampa, but is close), the river-walk, bay shore, Tampa aquarium, tampa museum of art, Moffit Cancer center by USF, downtown Tampa, and many others.
